Mesothelioma Lawyers Honor Home Care Aide Week

November 11, 2011

From San Francisco Chronicle, Mesothelioma Lawyers Honor Home Care Aide Week

The Mesothelioma Law Firm of Clapper Patti Schweizer & Mason is proud to honor Home Care Aide Week which starts on Monday, November 13 and runs through November 19, 2011. Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos that develops in the thin membrane that lines the lungs, heart, abdomen and other internal organs of the body. Mesothelioma can be very painful and require multiple hospital visits and treatments. Home care services allow our clients to remain in their homes as they near the end of life and offer a tremendous amount of support to caregivers and family members.

Most often, our clients have very little time to make important end-of-life decisions after they have been diagnosed before the symptoms of mesothelioma worsen and the disease rapidly progresses.
Mesothelioma can be hard to diagnose because the symptoms are similar to more common illnesses such as the flu or even a bad cold.

Coupled with that, our clients usually do not put together the link between their exposure to asbestos and potential cancer because mesothelioma also has a really long latency period, up to fifty years from the time of initial exposure. Between these two factors, asbestos cancer is often not diagnosed until it has reached advanced, un-treatable stages. At this point, survival times are quite low, often less than a year.

Most of our clients who know they are approaching the end of life tell us they prefer to receive care and die at home versus in a hospital or nursing care facility. This option, in large part, is made possible because of home care aides who can enter the home and provide all the services our clients need.

Having witnessed what a huge support home care aides can be during such a challenging time, Clapper Patti Schweizer & Mason would like to applaud and help recognize all the care givers who have made a difference in the lives of our clients.

Home care aides all over the United States, each day, deliver personal, medical and supportive services to our clients. Their dedication, courage and care allow our clients to have more choice, dignity and independence at one of the most difficult times in their lives. Many are volunteers, and we wish to heighten community awareness of how important their services have been and continue to be to our clients.

If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and cannot afford the cost of treatment or in-home medical care, please contact our office today to speak directly with one of our asbestos attorneys. We have helped hundreds of clients pay for the services they need through successful settlements and verdicts against the manufacturers of the asbestos products that were responsible for them developing mesothelioma. We also invite you to support Home Care Aide by getting involved in the National Association for Home Care (NAHC) national campaign during the month of November.
