Christine Renken, a leading asbestos attorney, recently celebrated 5 years with Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason, one of the first mesothelioma law firms in the country. Ms. Renken began her undergraduate studies as a chemistry major at the University of Southern California, but then quickly found her calling in law. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Sociology in 2001 and went on to attend Loyola Law School.
While at Loyola, Ms. Renken worked for a renowned appellate firm and interned with a Justice at the Court of Appeal, Second District. She also earned the First Honors Award for the highest grade in her Trial Advocacy class.
Ms. Renken graduated from Loyola in 2004 and went to work for a medium size business litigation firm in Orange County. At this firm, Ms. Renken was involved in representing clients who had suffered from elder abuse, and was successful in obtaining legal protection and restitution from the caretakers who had mistreated them or stolen from them. Ms. Renken says, "From my experience working with this firm, I became committed to helping innocent victims of intentional wrongdoing."
After relocating to Northern California, due to her husband's job in the U.S. Coast Guard, Ms. Renken actively sought a position with a law firm that would allow her to combine her skill of writing with her passion for helping individuals who had been wronged or injured. Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason was the perfect fit. As a mesothelioma law firm that represents clients who have suffered greatly as a result of asbestos exposure, the position afforded Ms. Renken the opportunity to use her legal skills to help them and their family members.
Ms. Renken says, “It has long been scientifically established that mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos. What’s tragic is that the companies that mined asbestos and manufactured and distributed asbestos containing products knew they were injuring and killing workers and users of their products long before they provided warnings, training, or protection. As a result of their negligence and intentional wrongdoing, thousands of good men and women and Veterans who served our country die of mesothelioma every year, just in the United States alone. It’s my job to help those who are sick or dying because of this unconscionable conduct.”
Ms. Renken specializes in all pre-trial matters of a case, including conducting and responding to discovery, taking corporate representative depositions, and preparing and opposing pre-trial motions. She uses her writing skills to obtain key facts and documents from defendants and to defend against the numerous motions defendants file to try to get out of a lawsuit.
She is currently a member of the California Bar, the San Francisco Trial Lawyers Association and the Queen's Bench. She is also active in the Coast Guard North Bay Spouses Club and is currently serving as the organization's President.
Last week, Ms. Renken was recognized for her 5 years of dedication and expertise that contributed to the many successful verdicts and settlements on behalf of clients represented by Clapper, Patti, Schweizer & Mason.
